Can I wear an underwire bra after breast reconstruction?
Most women prefer to not wear underwire bras after surgery because the wires can be uncomfortable with delicate scar tissue.
You would be better choosing a more comfortable bra.
It is recommended to wear your bra both day and night after surgery.
What is in a mastectomy bra?
Mastectomy bras include a discreet pocket in the cups to hold the prosthesis in the proper place.
When the breast form is in place, it looks very natural and should feel comfortable.
What is a breast prosthesis?
They are breast forms that simulate real breasts, available to be custom made or purchased “off the shelf”.
They can be made from a variety of materials but commonly made of silicone gel inside a plastic skin.

They can be worn inside a mastectomy bra or placed on the skin and worn with a regular bra.
Are Mastectomy Bras Covered by Medicare?
Medicare does provide partial reimbursement, and it does not matter when you had surgery.
