If you are diagnosed with cancer, treatment options could include chemotherapy and/or prescription drugs.
These types of treatments attack cells in the body including those in the roots of hair.
This can cause you to lose hair all over your body.
Depending on the treatment this could cause thinning or complete hair loss.
In this article we are going to answer the questions “Does Medicare cover wigs?”
Medicare Guidelines For Wigs
Many people that have lost hair due to chemotherapy prefer to wear a natural looking wig.
These wigs can vary in price based on the length of the wig and the material that it is made out of.
Original Medicare part A and B typically doesn’t pay for wigs for cancer patients.
Medicare Advantage
Some people also have Medicare advantage plans offered by private insurance companies.
These plans must cover everything Medicare covers with the exception of hospice care (this is still covered by Medicare part A).
Additional benefits can be obtained through Medicare Advantage plans that Original Medicare does not cover.
One example of this is prescription drugs benefits.
Medicare Advantage may cover wigs for patients suffering hair loss due to chemotherapy. It is best to check with your insurance provider for a complete explanation of benefits.
We understand that this can be a very stressful time for you, and we are happy to check with your insurance provider for you.
