It is a very personal choice of every woman to whether go through a reconstruction or live without a breast. However, many ladies choose to turn to breast forms – widely known as mastectomy and prosthetic bras.
As women say, these bras make them feel more attractive, like their old self.
How to Choose a Bra?
Mastectomy bras come in different sizes, shapes and materials (silicone gel, fiberfill or foam). There are weighed and lightweight prostheses. Many prostheses just slip into a pocket of a mastectomy bra or camisole so a woman does not feel anything unusual.
There are also adhesive patches that a woman should attach to the breast area, which allows going braless. Basically, there are two popular types of prostheses, each has its own functions and can be used in different situations:
- A lightweight option is recommended for women that are recovering from surgery; these are arguably the most comfortable. These prostheses feel natural during summer and can be machine-washed without damaging them. Many of these can also be warn in salt or chlorinated water.
- A silicone weighted prosthesis. This type is a little but harder to wash and take care of, but it feels more realistic and natural for everyday way. Many women who do not take off a prosthetic during sex choose silicone option because it feels very natural for the partner.
Silicone prostheses are a little bit heavier compared to the foam-filled models, especially for ladies with larger breasts. However, the properly chosen bras help keep your shoulders even and posture straight. These bras come in many designs with elastic necklace to ensure maximum level of comfort.
They do not move or slip. One important thing that many women need after a surgery is mobility. They want to quickly put the bra on and take it off easily. For this reason, many models also have a wide under-bust band to ensure freedom of movement.

What Are The Advantages of Wearing a Mastectomy Or Prosthetic Bra?
Many women prefer to have a special bra because they want to wear the same clothing they did prior to surgery and bras help the body look symmetrical. But this is not the only advantage of a mastectomy bra because it also:
